Good Idea, Bad Idea 01

Basically, this is my opinion about certain Avatar the Last Airbender couples.

I really loved Sokka and Yue; I was absolutely heartbroken when Yue died. They showed mutual interest in each other right from the outset, Sokka made a genuine effort in his romantic advances, they faced real dramatic tension (i.e. from Yue's betrothal), and they had a truly romantic ending to their story that, while tragic, shows that love can't always win no matter how much you care about someone as well as the steps towards letting someone go whom you loved and lost.

As for Kataang...well, you might think I'm biased because I'm a Zutara shipper, but I really just don't like the pairing. You can ship whomever you want, but I just hate how Bryke wrote the relationship; it wasn't the age difference that bothered me as with some shippers (two years? come on, people!), it was the fact that there was no real tension between them, any past indications of possible romance were forgotten (Cave of Two Lovers, anyone?), and the fact that Katara was basically turned into a trophy and given to Aang as a reward for saving the world; there's also the fact that Aang had no respect for personal boundaries like in The Ember Island Players when he kissed Katara right after she said she was confused about her feelings (personally, I think she was within her rights to slap him for his untoward advances in that episode); and then of course Aang got super-possessive of Katara and pretty much treated her like an object that "belonged" to him. Don't get me wrong, Kataang could have worked out if only Bryke had any idea how to write romance, which they don't.
